Drive for Enhanced Broadband. Consumer demand
for HDTV and high-speed Internet access services
continues to rise and service providers are
moving quickly to expand capacity throughout
the network. Nowhere is that more visible than
in the last mile of the access infrastructure. Most
new greeneld deployments are ber-based, as
there are tremendous advantages in deploying
new ber versus new copper. Many times,
delivering FTTH is the best solution — offering
carriers a high-capacity ber access network
that easily scales to handle the most bandwidth-
intensive services and enables the delivery of
next-generation services so carriers can increase
the Average Revenue Per Unit (ARPU).
The Right Technology. Gigabit Passive Optical
Network (GPON) and point-to-point Active
Ethernet have emerged as the key enabling
technologies for FTTH deployments. Offering
carriers end-to-end IP/Ethernet connectivity,
GPON and Active Ethernet provide carriers with
the most cost-optimized, high-density solution
that allows the delivery of a converged voice,
video and data infrastructure. This further enables
carriers to maximize their end user revenue
opportunities, both now and in the future.
Enabling the Last Mile. Designed with ber

capacity, offering high-capacity switching and

Line Terminals (OLTs) provide either a full 2.5 Gbps
of dedicated bandwidth per PON or up to 1 Gbps
